Riverside 2013 – 27 & 28 JULY
Now coming in to its 18th year, Riverside has become a major fixture in Oxfordshire’s music calendar, with more than 30 acts playing across two stages. But despite the cost of putting on an event of this size, it is still entirely free to enter and that is down to the astonishing community effort that goes into staging the festival.
It takes a hundred volunteers to get the show up and running. After months of planning, there are three backbreaking days before the festival itself: assembling two stages and a pontoon bridge; setting up sound systems; erecting 600 metres of fencing, ten marquees and 20 stalls; and shifting 20 portable toilets.
Then on the weekend itself volunteers flip burgers, pull pints, sell programmes and T-shirts, help run the kids section and generally keep the festival goers happy. If you would like to help, even if it’s just for an hour or two, email volunteer@riversidefestival.charlbury.com
